By 1 Month of Age, Your Baby Should Be Able To:

  • Turn their head toward a hand placed near their cheek or mouth (rooting reflex).
  • Bring both hands to their mouth.
  • Turn their head toward familiar voices.
  • Suckle at the breast and touch the mother's breast with their hands during feeding.

 

Tips for Parents and Caregivers

  • Breastfeeding should begin within the first hour after birth.
  • Always support your baby's head and neck when lifting or carrying them, as they are not yet able to hold their head up independently.
  • Hold, cuddle, and comfort your baby often. Show affection, even when you feel tired.
  • Breastfeed on demand, both during the day and at night.
  • Talk, read, and sing to your baby as often as possible to encourage early development and bonding.
  • Take your baby to their primary healthcare provider during the first week after discharge from the maternity hospital for their initial newborn check-up.
