Development at 10 Months

By 10 months of age, your baby's motor skills are becoming increasingly well developed. Support their development by reading books together, listening to stories and songs, and engaging in a variety of age-appropriate games and interactive activities.

Physical Development

  • Walks while holding both of an adult's hands.
  • Becomes more skilled at familiar movements and activities.
  • Picks up and holds objects with one hand.

Cognitive and Social Development

  • Continues to develop language by adding new words and sounds.
  • Uses different syllables consistently to refer to familiar people or objects.
  • Waves goodbye independently.
  • Remembers where familiar objects belong.
  • Recognizes praise and can tell when someone is displeased.
  • Remembers and shows preference for favorite toys.

At this stage, your baby may be able to play independently for short periods of time. Take advantage of these moments to recharge—enjoy a cup of coffee, call a friend, or simply take a few minutes for yourself. Caring for your own well-being is an important part of caring for your child.
