You Are 6 Weeks Pregnant
By Week 6 of pregnancy, the cerebellum—the part of the brain responsible for coordinating muscle movement—begins to develop.
At this stage, your baby begins to respond to touch with reflex movements. This means that your baby's developing nervous system is becoming connected to the primitive muscular system, allowing the muscles to contract in response to signals from the nervous system.
Your baby's pituitary gland also begins to develop. This small but vital gland produces growth hormone and other hormones that regulate the function of the body's endocrine glands, particularly the thyroid gland, adrenal glands, and gonads (ovaries or testes).
By the end of the sixth week of pregnancy, the embryo has a distinct head and body. At this stage, the head is proportionally much larger than the rest of the body.
The hormonal changes taking place during this period may also cause mood swings and emotional changes.
