During Week 5 of Pregnancy
The outer layer (ectoderm) develops into:
- Brain
- Nervous system
- Hair
- Eye lenses
- Ear tissues
- Nose
- Sinuses
- Tongue
- Mouth
- Anus
- Tooth enamel
- Pituitary gland
The middle layer (mesoderm) develops into:
- Heart
- Bones
- Muscles
- Blood vessels
- Reproductive organs
The inner layer (endoderm) develops into:
- Stomach
- Liver
- Intestines
- Lungs
- Urinary system
Around Day 25 after conception, your baby's heart begins to beat, although the heartbeat cannot yet be detected.
During the fifth week, your baby's reproductive system also begins to develop. The ovaries start to form if your baby is a girl, while the testes begin to develop if your baby is a boy.
