Advices after pregnancy

Development at 5 Months

By 5 months of age, your baby's sleep, feeding, and wakefulness patterns may change again. At this stage, some babies begin to sleep through the night, while others may wake up very early in the morning.

Your baby now needs more space to move freely, as they become increasingly active. They enjoy rolling over, stretching, and exploring their surroundings, making safe floor play an important part of their daily routine.

Physical Development

By this age, your baby may be able to:

  • Spend extended periods lying comfortably on their tummy.

  • Roll confidently from their back onto their tummy.

  • Sit with support, although the back may still be rounded.

  • Play with their hands and feet.

  • Grasp and hold objects securely.

Social and Emotional Development

Your baby may:

  • Recognize their mother's voice.

  • Distinguish familiar people from strangers.

  • Respond differently to changes in the tone of your voice.

  • Initiate interaction by smiling, babbling, or reaching out to engage with parents and caregivers.

A Note About Sleep

Between 4 and 6 months of age, some babies may once again experience changes in their day-and-night sleep patterns.

If your baby is having difficulty sleeping at night, consider whether they:

  • Sleep too much during the day.

  • Need more opportunities for active play and movement while awake.

  • Are sleeping in a room that is too warm or too dry.

Creating a comfortable sleep environment and maintaining an age-appropriate daily routine can help support healthy sleep habits.
