Pityriasis Alba Treatment at Gagua Clinic
Pityriasis alba is a common, benign skin condition of allergic origin, characterized by round or oval hypopigmented (light-colored) patches, sometimes accompanied by mild scaling.
The condition most commonly affects children between the ages of 3 and 12. Many patients have a personal or family history of atopy, and pityriasis alba is often considered a mild manifestation of atopic dermatitis (eczema).
The patches are most frequently found on the face (especially the cheeks) and upper arms, and they tend to be more noticeable in individuals with darker skin tones, particularly after sun exposure.
Pityriasis alba is not contagious and does not pose a risk to others.
Diagnosis
Accurate diagnosis by a dermatologist is essential to distinguish pityriasis alba from other conditions that cause light-colored skin patches, such as vitiligo or fungal skin infections.
Treatment
Pityriasis alba is a treatable condition. Treatment primarily focuses on restoring the skin barrier and improving skin hydration through the regular use of moisturizers and emollients. In some cases, your dermatologist may recommend additional topical treatments based on the severity of the condition.
At Gagua Clinic, our dermatologists provide expert diagnosis and individualized treatment plans to help restore healthy skin and reduce the recurrence of symptoms.
